The challenge
WFP field offices needed a data link at remote sites where terrestrial internet was either missing or unreliable, so that logistics and reporting systems stayed online.
What we did
- Installed, serviced, repaired and later de-installed VSAT links at five documented WFP sites in four counties.
- Caldwell field office, Montserrado: installation of a 2.4m Prodelin Ku-band antenna with a Newtec MDM3310 modem. Because of where the dish had to stand and its line of sight, the link was moved from T11N to ASTRA 4A. The antenna was assembled, aimed and activated, and the 12-hour stabilisation test passed. On site 15 to 21 December 2023.
- WFP country office, Monrovia: service call on 9 February 2024. We checked the transmit chain, replaced its connectors and cleaned the BUC, then confirmed the link with the NOC.
- Harper and Zwedru sub-offices: VSAT de-installation and transition at both sub-offices in 2022. At Harper, all equipment was removed and packed, and the report was signed on 29 July 2022.
- Saclepea sub-office, Nimba County: service call for a transmit fault. We re-terminated the cables, tested with a spare BUC, then installed a new 10W C-Band BUC and a new 70m transmit cable and re-ran the cables in PVC conduit. Completed 31 December 2025.
The result
The WFP sites had working satellite links for humanitarian work, well beyond the reach of fixed lines. The five WFP jobs are documented on our Projects page, covering sites in four counties: Montserrado, Nimba, Maryland and Grand Gedeh.
